Pain physicians are increasingly called upon to participate in medico-legal processes by completing independent medical examinations, drafting expert reports, and testifying in tort and disability proceedings.  The Medico-Legal Special Interest Group was established to address this formal training gap, providing Canadian Pain Society members with structured education on the legal frameworks, documentation standards, and professional boundaries that govern this work.

By fostering dialogue between clinicians, legal professionals, and regulatory bodies, the SIG aims to improve the quality and consistency of medico-legal practice while protecting both patients and practitioners from the risks of role confusion and inadequate preparation.
