We will never ask you for personal health information.

The Canadian Pain Society, in accordance with Alberta information management requirements, maintains the confidentiality and privacy of individuals' personal while collecting, using, and disclosing information in compliance with the Health Information Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The Canadian Pain Society supports the right of individuals or their authorized representatives to access and request corrections to their personal and health information, subject to any specific restrictions in applicable legislation.

The Canadian Pain Society will not collect, use, or disclose personal or health information in any manner that is not in accordance with the Health Information Act, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, or their established policies.  The Canadian Pain Society may collect personal information when you voluntarily complete any online application, request form, or survey, or when you use our site.

We will use your personal information as necessary to provide services and operate your user account including but not limited to, maintaining your account, understanding usage patterns, and enhancing service capability and performance. We will use and disclose it for no other purpose, other than in the following circumstances:

  • we are required to do so by law, including by a subpoena, warrant or court order; or

  • for the purpose of a court proceeding or a proceeding before a quasi-judicial body to which The Canadian Pain Society is a party.

Membership Account Privacy Policy

This section of the privacy policy only applies to your user account ("Membership Account").

The Canadian Pain Society membership service enables you to access evidence-based education and a network of healthcare providers, researchers, scientists, and those living with pain. In order to utilize the Membership Account, you must first register as a Membership Account user. The information you provide to register for a Membership Account is subject to this Privacy Policy. Please refer to The Canadian Pain Society terms and conditions before of utilizing the Membership Accounts.

The Canadian Pain Society may collect your personal information when you voluntarily enter information into your personal Membership Account. The information is collected as part of the Membership service we are offering. The Canadian Pain Society will collect information voluntarily entered by the user, and may collect additional information about how the Membership Account and Membership service are used from other sources where the user has consented. 

If you choose to register and create a Membership Account within The Canadian Pain Society, your personal information may be used by The Canadian Pain Society for the management, operation, and continuity of your Membership Account. Whenever possible we will only use non-identifying aggregate information for the management and operation of the Membership Account service.

Legislation governing The Canadian Pain Society may permit discretionary disclosure of your personal information without your consent. However, notwithstanding this, The Canadian Pain Society expressly agree not to disclose any personal information that you have entered or caused to be entered into your Membership Account to any third party without your prior written consent or authorization, unless we are required to do so by law, including by court order or subpoena.
