Meet the Board of Directors

MICHAEL MCGILLION (Treasurer)

Dr. Michael McGillion is an Assistant Professor at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto and Treasurer of the Canadian Pain Society (2010-2013). His current program of research has two major foci including: a) Chronic cardiac pain predictors, self-management approaches, and best management practices; and, b) Simulation-based interventions for improving pain education and pain assessment and management practices.

Prior to his faculty post at Nursing, Dr. McGillion completed a post-doctoral fellowship at McMaster University (2006-2008), funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario and the FUTURE program for Cardiovascular Nurse Scientists.

His most recent funding supports are: a) The development of Canadian Joint Canadian Cardiovascular Society-Canadian Pain Society clinical practice guidelines for the management of refractory angina (CIHR); b) A prognostic investigation of the prevalence and predictors of non-ischemic chest pain following percutaneous coronary intervention (CIHR); and, c) Randomized controlled trials of simulation methods to improve post-operative pain management practices in the clinical setting (Network of Excellence in Simulation for Clinical Teaching and Learning; University of Toronto Connaught New Staff Matching Grant).

Dr. McGillion teaches graduate courses on pain, research methods and the history of ideas in nursing practice. He is also the Chair of the case-based learning sub-committee of the University of Toronto Interfaculty Pain Curriculum.
