Meet the Board of Directors

KATIE BIRNIE (Trainee Representative)

 

Katie Birnie is a PhD student in Clinical Psychology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She is supervised by Dr. Christine Chambers and is based out of the Centre for Pediatric Pain Research at the IWK Health Centre. Currently, Katie's research focuses on ethical issues in pediatric pain research, parent and familial factors in pediatric pain, the prevalence of pain among hospitalized children, and spirituality in adults with chronic pain. Katie completed her undergraduate honours degree in Psychology at the University of Calgary in 2007 where she conducted research in the area of psychosocial oncology. Katie is a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholar and a Killam Scholar. She also receives funding from the CIHR Team in Children's Pain and the IWK Health Centre and is a member of Pain in Child Health (PICH): a CIHR strategic training initiative.
